Michaela Sigmon, Miss Virginia 2016

Age: 21

Hometown: Chesapeake, Virginia

Talent: Tap Dance

Platform Issue: Making It Matter

Education: Studying Communications at Old Dominion University

Scholastic Ambition: Obtain a degree in Communicationsand become an announcer for ESPN or NFL Network. I also plan to complete my minor in dance and performance arts

Scholastic Honors: Phi Theta Kappa; Presidential Honor Roll, Dean's List; Honors College

My Defining Moment: Mia Michaels, an award-winning choreographer, once told me to make sure who I was before I ventured out into the world. Those were some of the wisest words I've ever heard.

What I've learned from the Miss America Pageant: The Miss America program has directed me in the creation of my platform, which I will carry with me throughout my life.  My platform is a reflection of my true feelings, and the Miss America program has afforded me opportunities to reach out and put my platform to work.

My platform, Making It Matter, is me and is a powerful tool to reach and empower individuals with the realization that they are valued. I have lived in such a manner that, when crowned Miss America, I can reach others with the confidence of knowing there is nothing one can bring against me to devalue my platform or the Miss America Organization. My platform motto, "I may not know you, but I see you, and I value you," is the basis of the Miss America Organization and brings to fullfillment my life's motto: The greatest blessing is to be a blessing.
