Enabling Reform: Currently, laws in Virginia do not adequately protect victims because the Commonwealth does not recognize criminal or civil causes of action of perpetrators of emotional abuse. I completed an independent study while at the University of Richmond School of Law to develop a plan to address the gaps in Virginia's laws and presented my research to Govenor Youngkin and First Lady of Virginia to address the need for reform at a state level. I then had the opportunity to present my research and recommendations to the Virginia Attorney General and discussed ways in which we can start to integrate these concepts into our educational systems as well as enact them into law.

ABC School Tour: As Miss Virginia, and a Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) School Liaison, I developed an elementary school level curriculum rooted in identifying, building, and maintaining healthy relationships. Throughout my year as Miss Virginia on my ABC School Tour, I'll be able to reach thousands of students across the Commonwealth. Most importantly, the curriculum doesn't stop when I leave the classroom. I suggest readings and lesson plans that teachers can use to reinforce these messages.
